About the Artist - André Lhote

André Lhote (1885-1962) was a French painter, sculptor, and art teacher, notable for his contributions to Cubism and as a leading figure in the development of modern art. Born in Bordeaux, Lhote initially studied decorative arts before moving to Paris to immerse himself in the burgeoning avant-garde art scene. He embraced Cubism and developed a style characterized by geometric forms and a sense of structure.

Lhote's artistic career included various phases, including a period of classical influences, but he remained committed to modernism throughout his life. He was a prominent art teacher, influencing many aspiring artists through his academies in Paris and Martigues. His written works, particularly "Treatise on Landscape Painting and Perspective," played a significant role in art theory.

He exhibited widely and contributed to the development of art in France during the early 20th century. Lhote's work and teachings left a lasting impact on the world of art.
