About the Artist - István Sándorfi

István Sándorfi (1948–2007) was a Hungarian-born French painter celebrated for his hyperrealistic and figurative works. Born in Budapest, Sándorfi moved to France in 1967, where he eventually became a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene. His early paintings showcased a mastery of classical techniques and a fascination with the human form, often exploring themes of eroticism and existentialism.

Sándorfi gained recognition for his meticulous attention to detail, rendering the human body with incredible precision. His work transcended traditional realism, incorporating elements of surrealism and symbolism. Notable pieces include "Nude in Red Landscape" and "The Rape."

Throughout his career, Sándorfi maintained a relatively private life, allowing his art to speak for itself. His paintings, characterized by their intensity and emotional depth, garnered international acclaim. Sándorfi's untimely death in 2007 marked the end of a career marked by a commitment to technical excellence and a unique exploration of the human condition through art.
