About the Artist - Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian-born painter and art theorist, considered a pioneer of abstract art. He began his artistic career relatively late, after studying law and economics. Kandinsky's early work was influenced by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, but he later embraced abstraction as a means to express the spiritual and emotional in art.

In 1910, he co-founded the Blue Rider movement, emphasizing the spiritual aspects of art and the use of color and form to convey emotions. Kandinsky's work evolved through various stages, from his iconic geometric and colorful compositions to more organic, biomorphic shapes. His treatise "Concerning the Spiritual in Art" (1910) became a cornerstone of abstract art theory.

Kandinsky's influence on the development of abstract art was profound, and his innovative approach to color and form continues to inspire artists and art enthusiasts worldwide. He spent his later years in France and passed away in 1944, leaving behind a legacy of pioneering abstract art.
