About the Artist - Kensuke Wakeshima
Kensuke Wakeshima, born in Japan in 1937, began his artistic journey by studying traditional Japanese art at the Asano Art Institute. Moving to the United States in 1956, he further honed his skills at The Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and the Art Students League in New York. A member of the Society of American Graphic Artists and the Boston Printmaking Association, Wakeshima gained recognition through numerous selected exhibitions in both the United States and Japan.
His works found a place in the permanent collections of esteemed institutions such as the Seattle Art Museum, Yale University, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Wakeshima's art reflects a fusion of traditional Japanese influences and contemporary Western techniques, showcasing his diverse artistic background. His journey, spanning continents and artistic institutions, exemplifies a cross-cultural exchange that shaped his unique artistic expression.
