About the Artist - Ben Shahn
Ben Shahn (1898-1969) was an influential American artist known for his contributions to social realism and his unique artistic style. He was born in Lithuania and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1906. Shahn studied art in New York and became associated with the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression, where he created powerful murals and paintings that depicted the struggles of the working class.
