About the Technique — Etching
Etching is an intaglio printmaking process in which the artist draws directly onto a metal plate — typically copper or zinc — coated in an acid-resistant ground. The plate is then submerged in acid, which bites into the exposed lines. The result is a mark of extraordinary depth and precision — dark where the acid has worked hardest, delicate where the artist's hand moved fastest. It is one of the oldest and most demanding printmaking techniques, practiced by Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso before it became the quiet obsession of artists like Osanne.
About the Artist - Osanne
Osanne is a French artist working primarily in etching and engraving, known for her surrealist-inflected subjects — animals, botanicals, and fantastical figures that feel lifted from a world just slightly beyond our own. Her work is precise yet dreamlike, technically rigorous yet full of warmth. She works in small limited editions, ensuring each print retains the intimacy of an object made by hand, for a specific wall, by a specific person.
